14th Summer Printmaking Workshop: Modular Matrix: Letterpress and the Page

During week one of Modular Matrix: Letterpress and the Page workshop, Denise Bookwalter will present traditional and experimental approaches to letterpress printing using a modular matrix. Students will be introduced to the basics of printing on the Vandercook Proof Press. We will draw inspiration from collaborative artists’ books and investigate various modes of creating modular images. Students will learn how to make polymer plates and laser cut wood blocks that will be used to print the pages of a collaborative artists’ book. Additional one page binding structures will be introduced for experimentation and individual projects. During the second week participants will work with Professor Kapplinger to create a collaborative artists’ book. No previous printmaking knowledge necessary.
